Perth 800... from 21 January

Perth 800 events - T in the Park
Perth 800 is a year-long celebration in 2010 which marks the 800th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Burgh Charter to Perth by King William the Lion in 1210.

Perth 800 is a landmark year to celebrate the anniversary of Perth being named a royal burgh in 1210. As such Perth and Kinross Council are hosting a year-long programme of events. An exciting and ambitious programme on the themes of heritage, sport, arts and culture and the local economy will see more than one event a week being held throughout Perth and Kinross during 2010.

These events will be aimed at engaging with local communities, encouraging civic pride, stimulating the local economy through tourism, enhancing the national and international profile of Perth and Kinross and creating a foundation for Perth to bid for formal city status. Three further cross cutting themes are the Future, Communities and Twinning.

Perth 800 Opening Weekend starts off the 2010 celebration with a weekend of activities. Off Kilter, a feisty and fabulous dance and music extravaganza showcases dance styles that are alive and kicking in Scotland today. The Market of Optimism will be in town offering you free money and a market of optimism to spend it in. However, if you’d prefer to delve into the past for a glimpse at the lives of ordinary people through extraordinary objects, then visit the Skin & Bone: Life & Death in Medieval Perth Exhibition.
